Checker Hall is a fantastic spot for both ambiance and flavor. The vibe is warm and welcoming, perfect for a memorable evening out. Shoutout to our bartender, Sebastian, who made our wait time of about an hour on a Friday night enjoyable--starting the evening with his amazing cocktails set the tone! The oysters are a highlight, perfectly sweet and salty. The chicken skewer paired with hummus is a delightful and exciting dish, full of flavor. Another standout is the seafood appetizer Kampachi Crudo if you're a fan of bold, sour, salty, and oceanic tastes, this is a must-order. The burger and fries make a great shareable option, hearty and perfectly seasoned. Altogether, Checker Hall is a place worth visiting and savoring!

Best dinner experience I've ever had. Really sensual experience, from the moody ambience in a cute neighborhood, to every bite I had which blew me away. The service was pleasant too!

My friends suggested this delightful restaurant located on the second floor in Highland Park. It had a very theatrical speakeasy sort of vibe which enhanced the dining experience. I loved their whipped feta. I think I can eat that bread and cheese for days. The service was also impeccable. I was trying to remember what I ordered but was some type of fish that was pretty delicious. I would recommend this place for a nice romantic outing with a significant other. We saw several couples by the bar having a nice romantic outing.

I've only been here for drinks, so i cannot attest how the food is. But what a gorgeous space! I came here on a saturday night and the place was packed, but we were able to secure seats at the bar. This place is meant for small parties. lots of 4 tops and 2 tops. There a neat balcony area. I can totally see going on a date here for sure. The service was great, very attentive. The drinks were mostly very good, just not sure about that peanut old fashioned though, that was a bit strange but YMMV. Can't wait to come back with a date and try some food on the balcony.

I recently went to Checker Hall with my boyfriend for a date night, and we had a lovely experience. We were sat on the balcony and I loved being able to see the moon. We ordered the grilled mushrooms, steak frites, and the whipped feta, which was absolutely divine. The mushrooms were perfectly charred and flavorful, while the steak was cooked just right and paired well with the crispy frites. The ambiance at Checker Hall was ideal for a date night--cozy, yet lively. The service was friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive. Overall, it was a wonderful evening, and while it didn't quite reach that full 5-star "wow" factor, the food and atmosphere were impressive enough to highly recommend Checker Hall for a great dinner out, especially for a special night!

I've been here a bunch! My sister just had a baby and about 10 days ago she lost her boyfriend in a tragic motorcycle accident. I wanted to get here out of the house. She's not much of a drinker and hasn't been very hungry so I suggested small bites and live jazz at Checker Hall. Her favorite part of the evening was our amazing bartender Brandy. Just a kind soul who got us through our night with good suggestions and her sunny disposition. You just never know what people are going through. Thanks for helping her get things off her mind for a couple of hours.

I loveeeeee this place! It's the cutest spot in the heart of Highland Park. Whether you come in the day + night+ a jazz night or a night they have show, this place won't disappoint. Fav dishes: Steak Frites cooked at its perfection. That sauce is so yummy!! Sticky Sweet Potatoes + Whipped Feta is a a must get/try!! You won't regret it. Full of flavor and your taste buds will thank you. Chicken Schnitzel was my least fav of all the dishes I've tried but i can see why others like it. It's crispy and fried to perfection. Parking: parking lots + street parking available.. but can be tricky. May need to wait awhile before you find a spot. Reservations are not required but highly recommended. If you want to sit out in the balcony, please be there by 5pm or a few mins prior to get a spot. First come first serve.

Ambiance, location, great view, food and live music you say??? And on a Sunday evening?! No way... Definitely gonna put this place in my "favorite" collection. Located upstairs next to "Lodge Hall," this restaurant is for anyone looking for a romantic spot, catching up with friends, chilling at the bar or celebrating any occasion. A hip vibe with a friendly and extremely efficient staff. The menu is an interesting blend of Mediterranean dishes with a twist. Good for vegans, gluten free and vegetarians. *The whipped feta and pita is a must!!!! *The Chicken Schnitzel was delicious. Pounded chicken dipped in panko and fried served with 3 dipping sauces, citrus slaw & Bibb lettuce salad. Amazingly good! The pieces of chicken were huge!! *The Seared Halloumi Salad was delcious. Also good for sharing. Or not sharing. Lol. *The Sticky Sweet Potato also very good. *Each dish can be shared. A bit pricey but very good. The live jazz was a nice touch and added to the evening. It didn't take over the room. We could still have a conversation without having to raise our voices. Our server Angie was very sweet and took very good care of our table. The turn around time for our food was quick. *Plenty of metered street parking and a few lots in the area.
